Interview with Yu-Ngok Lo : Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Yu-Ngok Lo : My main focus has been the simplicity of the design. With a limited budget, it is important to design something that is simple and functional. Also, at the same time, the basic sustainable needs shall be fulfilled. By maximizing the amount of natural light and celebrating openness, I ended up with a design that is relatively clean and simple. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Yu-Ngok Lo : I hope this house can be realized in real life. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Yu-Ngok Lo : About a week .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Yu-Ngok Lo : It was a design commission, the goal is to help the client getting what she needs (with all the program requirements) within a reasonable budget while expressing a certain level of aesthetic statement. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Yu-Ngok Lo : I have always wanted to design single family residences. I think the program requirement is usually less complex which in turn gives me more flexibility in terms of design expression. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Yu-Ngok Lo : Site constraint and limited budget. Local zoning requirements limited the shape of the building and the simple facade is a result of putting construction cost in mind. .
